This book features the writings and collections of John Macintosh Mathieson (1907-1981) who was raised in Skye and was a graduate and prize-winner from Edinburgh University. John was also a talented shinty player and was in the Edinburgh University team which won the coveted Littlejohn Vase in 1929. He was a schoolteacher in Portree, Broadford, Speyside and Inverness and was a singer, a bard and a Gaelic playwright.

 

Water over Silver has an account of Mathieson’s youth in Kilmuir and Uig and includes his poetry, Gaelic plays, his collections of Gaelic songs and essays on the placenames of Strathspey and on the Rev Lachlan Shaw, a Moray-shire historian. Softback, 205 pages.
